Proposing new national visions and development strategies to design the future of Korea

Based on the shared values such as democracy, fair market economy, inclusiveness, peace, and coexistence, the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences has set its visions including an "innovative and inclusive state"and a "Globally Inclusive State" so that the nation can help people enhance their capabilities, resolve social conflict, and create a dynamic economy.

In order to support national policy-making and create new national visions,
we are promoting the seven strategic researches.

Inclusive State Seeking global prosperity and sustainable development

To come up with more detailed strategies for realizing the new national vision "inclusive state" and to contribute to global prosperity and sustainable development, the National Research Council has created the "Inclusive State Research Group" with experts within the NRC and affiliate research institutes as well as from outside.

Innovative Economy Establishing measures to nurture new growth engines and pursue innovation-based growth

In order to respond to the emerging Fourth Industrial Revolution and foster the nation's innovation ecosystem, the National Research Council is running the "Innovative Economy Research Group," as part of an effort to establish new growth engines and switch conventional industries into digital-based ones, and expand the base of innovation-based growth, and thereby preparing for a new leapfrogging opportunity.

Educational reform Creating a new educational paradigm blueprint and proposing strategies for realizing it

Beyond the boundary of the May 31 educational reform, the National Research Council tries to propose a whole new set of educational reform vision and strategy and create a blueprint for a new educational paradigm toward 2045 when Korea will celebrate its 100-year anniversary since independence.

In response to the rising needs for anticipatory governance due to the increasingly complex nature of policy issues, the National Research Council has established the "Anticipatory Governance Research Group and Advisory Group." ※ The National Research Council's "data-based future-oriented policy support program" has been selected as one of the government reform policy projects by the Ministry of Interior and Safety in 2019.

The National Research Council is actively responding to the issues of the Korean Peninsula by engaging in research projects related to North Korea and unification in a rapidly changing international environment.

    • A comprehensive study on North Korea's development, follow-up measures to the North Korea-U.S. summit, support for inter-Korean economic cooperation and North Korea's economic development, social and cultural exchange and integration, vision and strategy for prosperity and peace on the Korean Peninsula, the New Korean Peninsula system, and response to current issues related to North Korea

  • Research agendas Comprehensive and mid-to long-term strategic research in the matrix form of the world's major "Area × Theme"; identifying policy issues and current trends of each region, suggesting response strategies; national policy consulting; detecting delicate differences in relationships with different countries; leadership and governance; international and external shocks; shortages and disasters; future-oriented studies that combine social differentiation and the crisis of trust.
