Russia's war against Ukraine poses a significant threat to efforts to foster international cooperation to tackle pressing global challenges. The G7 in 2022 faces the challenge of how to effectively respond to Russia's aggression while at the same time working through the priority agenda as announced at the start of the German G7 presidency.

This session will discuss the G7's relations with non-G7 countries, especially Africa.

- Public Panel Discussion : The role of the G7 in a new Geopolitical Environment

The public panel discussion will focus on the main objectives of the German G7 Presidency in a new geopolitical environment. It will also discuss the role of the G7 during the Japanese presidency in 2023.

- The future of development cooperation
For many decades, the OECD approach was the dominant normative framework. However, current understandings of development cooperation have become more complex and diverse. The rise of South-South cooperation is one prominent example for a distinct additional concept of development cooperation. Further examples in current debates that reframe development cooperation relate to discourses on global public goods and the global common good.

The roles of and expectations towards think tanks are subject to significant changes in light of an increasingly contested geo-plitical system and domestic settings. This panel will reflect on the future role of think tanks, with a particular focus on the future role and structure of the T7.

- Plenary Session : The impact of the G7 on future generations
The panel brings together youth representatives with an audience of policy thinkers and think tank representatives. Together they will discuss challenges - e.g., the lack of youth representation seems especially pressing when it comes to topics and decisions that directly affect their future on this planet - and the politics of youth representation in global governance forums like the G7. The discussion is meant to be an interactive dialogue between representatives of youth engagement and experts within the realm of lobal governance, G7 and Think7.
